iPad not directing to mobile site

Is there a way to have iPad/tablets load the mobile site rather than the main site?  Phones don't appear to be an issue, but iPads don't get re-directed to the mobile site automatically.  I can find no configuration other than to turn mobile redirect on or off in the website preferences menu.
