Moto4 Backup and Restore Options

Moto4 provides two types of backups to ensure your website data is protected and can be restored when needed. These options differ in how they are created, stored, and restored.

Important! If you implemented the unneeded edits and haven't closed the editor window (tab), you might be able to revert some changes step-by-step by using the "Undo" button:

If you've reverted too far and some desired edits were undone but you want to get them back, you can click the "Redo" button:

Admin Panel Backups (Manual Restore Points)

Website administrators (owner or collaborator) can create and manage backups directly from the Moto4 admin interface.

Key Features:

  • Up to 100 backup restore points can be created per website in Moto4 Pro plan (limited to 5 restore points in Free plan).
  • Backups are created manually by website administrators.
  • Each restore point captures the website state at the time of creation.
  • Ideal for:
    • Testing changes
    • Updating content or design
    • Creating safe rollback points before modifications

How to Create:

While in your website's admin panel, click the "Site History" button > "Save current site version":

A backup will be created in few seconds. Successful backup creation should lead to showing a popup at the bottom left corner of the screen, make sure it appears!

You can also make sure the backup is created by clicking the "Open site history" button on this popup:

Also, you can check it at the "Site history" section:

Managing Backups:

You can see the list of available backups created manually by website administrators in the Site versions section. From there, you'll be able to Restore, Rename or Remove a backup:

How to Restore:

Open the backup/restore section by clicking the "Site history" button > Site history:

  • Select the desired restore point.
  • Click Restore.

Note: Restoration from these backups is immediate and does not require contacting support.

Free plan includes up to 5 backup points, while Moto4 Pro subscription allows you to store and manage up to 100 backup points.

You can close the Site history section by clicking the "Back to editor" button at the top right corner.

Server Backups (Automated)

In addition to manual backups, the system performs automatic server-level backups.

Key Features:

  • Created automatically every 1–2 days.
  • Stored securely on the server side.
  • Not directly accessible from the Moto4 admin panel.
  • Serve as a fallback recovery option in case manual backups are unavailable or insufficient.

How to Restore:

  • Contact the support team at support@motocms.com
  • Provide:
    • Your website URL
    • Approximate date/time of the version you want to restore (before the unneeded edits were implemented)
  • The support team will perform the restoration for you.

Note: Restoration time may vary depending on backup availability, might be paid and will require up to 24 hours to accomplish the restoration.

Best Practice Recommendations

  • Create a manual backup before making significant changes.
  • Use descriptive names for restore points to easily identify them later.
  • Rely on server backups only as a secondary recovery option.
